the one we offer here for sale has the coat of arms of the city The Hague - het ooievaar wapen van Den Haag / 's Gravenhage - showing a stork standing on one leg, holding an eel in his beak

a connection between AEG and The Hague is a electricity factory: the municipality of The Hague decided in 1901 to build a bigger electricity factory at De Constant Rebecque plein in Den Haag, AEG took care of the technique in the new installation, it became operational in 1906, this letter opener might have been a business present

Peter Behrens played an important role in the development of modern architecture, he co-founded the Deutsche Werkbund and was a pionneer in Industrial design. He started his career as a painter in Munich at the time of the Munchner Secession, then he joined a colony of artists in Darmstadt, the Darmstadt Kunstler, in 1907 he became official the artistic advisor of AEG
